Course graduate
I'd never worked in a gym before and wasn't sure I'd keep up, but the tutors talked everything through step by step. Training at Robin Park made it feel like a real job from day one. I had an interview lined up before I'd even finished the course.

Train Where Elite Sport Happens

Competence Development Academy holds an exclusive training partnership with Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club, and you'll be training in the same Wigan Warriors RL Performance Gym used by the first team. That's not just a selling point - it shapes how you learn. The standards, the equipment, the culture of the space all raise the bar for what you expect from yourself as a fitness professional. Our tutors are working industry professionals who've coached in commercial gyms, leisure centres and performance environments - so what they teach is grounded in what actually happens in the job, not just what's in a textbook.

If you're not sure whether you'd qualify for a funded place, it's worth checking - many people are surprised to find they're eligible. Is this the right course for someone just starting out in the fitness industry?

Yes - this is the ideal entry point for anyone looking to begin a career in fitness. You'll build the foundational skills and knowledge needed to work as a Gym Instructor.

What kind of jobs can I get after completing this course?

You'll be qualified to work as a Gym Instructor in commercial, private or community gyms. It can also lead to further study such as Personal Training or Strength & Conditioning.
