Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coaching

Learn to coach strength, speed and athletic performance the way it's done at elite level, training in the same Robin Park facilities used by Wigan Warriors.

About This Course

This hands-on course introduces the principles and practices of Strength and Conditioning (S&C), focusing on how to safely improve physical performance in a variety of individuals. Designed for those new to coaching or looking to upskill, it builds core knowledge and applied coaching ability across key movement patterns and training methods.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll explore training methods for strength, speed, endurance and agility - alongside key coaching skills such as cueing, feedback and risk management. You'll also gain an understanding of athlete development, warm-up design, and session planning for diverse groups.

Where It Can Take You

This qualification is a strong foundation for further study in coaching, personal training or sport science. It's ideal for those looking to assist in athletic development environments, community programmes or school sport settings.

Course Structure

The course is delivered part-time through practical coaching sessions, interactive workshops and online learning. Assessment is based on your ability to plan and deliver safe and effective S&C sessions, supported by written tasks and tutor observations.

I'd done a bit of coaching with my local club but never had any formal training. This course gave me the confidence to actually plan sessions properly instead of just copying what I'd seen elsewhere. Training at Robin Park alongside the Warriors set-up made it feel like a proper coaching environment, not just a classroom.

Level 2 Strength & Conditioning graduate, now coaching at a local junior rugby club

The course is relevant to both. While it introduces concepts used in athletic settings, it's also suitable for coaching recreational clients who want to improve strength and movement.

Do I need any previous qualifications or experience?

No - this is a beginner-friendly course, though some familiarity with training concepts is helpful. We'll support you with everything you need to succeed.

Will I get practical coaching experience during the course?

Yes - you'll take part in practical coaching scenarios, learning how to plan and deliver strength-based sessions. These activities help build confidence and readiness for real-life coaching.

Can I use this qualification to work straight away?

Yes - you'll be able to take on assistant coaching roles or work with individuals or small groups in strength and conditioning contexts.

What progression routes are available after this course?

You can go on to take the Level 3 Personal Trainer course, specialise in coaching young athletes, or progress towards sport-specific coaching qualifications.
