Train at Robin Park alongside Wigan Warriors and qualify to work one-to-one with clients as a sports massage therapist - in just 12 weeks.

This course builds on your foundational knowledge of fitness and prepares you for work as a qualified sports massage therapist. It combines theory, practical hands-on treatment skills, and client-focused assessment and planning to give you the skills and confidence to work independently or within clinics, sports teams, or gym environments. You’ll learn in a professional setting with expert tutors and excellent facilities.
You’ll deepen your understanding of anatomy, physiology, and nutrition, while learning how to assess client needs, identify muscular imbalances, and apply effective sports massage techniques. The course also covers client communication, professional practice, and how to build and manage a successful sports massage business.
After completing this course, you’ll be fully qualified to work as a sports massage therapist in clinics, sports settings, gyms, or as a self-employed practitioner. It also opens doors to further specialisation in areas such as injury rehabilitation, soft tissue therapy, or sports performance support.

Delivered part-time over 12 weeks, blending four practical weekends with flexible online study.
Competence Development Academy holds an exclusive training partnership with Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club, and your practical weekends take place at Robin Park - the same site where Wigan Warriors train and prepare. It's the kind of environment that shapes how you approach the work from day one. Our tutors are practising sports massage therapists with real-world experience across sport, fitness and performance settings, so what they teach you is grounded in what actually happens when you're working with clients - not just what's in a textbook.

The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is a commercial course and is not eligible for government funding, so it's available on a self-funded basis. The standard course fee is £1,500, but we know that paying everything upfront isn't always practical - so we offer three ways to spread the cost, including a discount for paying in full. Have a look through the options below and choose whichever works best for your circumstances.
Whichever option you choose, many of our graduates find the course pays for itself quickly. A sports massage therapist charging £45-£60 per session needs fewer than 35 sessions to recover the full £1,400 fee - and most go on to build a regular client list alongside existing work in fitness, sport or therapy.
